What is ISIS Really?

If you’ve been keeping up current events, you might have already seen the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terror group executed another American citizen. What I don’t understand is that the American government has access to the best technology in order spy on its own citizens here in America. So, you want me to believe that no one in our government can’t or doesn’t know how to find this terror group? You can miss me with that shit. I refuse to believe that.

If I were the President of the United States, I would allow congress to spend copious amounts of money on finding this group WITHOUT putting groups on the ground. If I told my troops, to their face, that I would not commit them to another ground war in Iraq, I would firmly stand by my word. As far as I’ve seen the America public is split about this issue. Additionally, what sense does it make to commit troops to another war when you’re telling the Department of Defense that we need a reduction in our force?

I’m willing to bet that the majority of the American public only knows ISIS for a terror group. That is true, but they’re more than just a terror group. Here are some fun facts about this terror group:

• Who They Are: ISIS stands for Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The group is trying to form an independent state with territory in Iraq, Syria, and parts of Lebanon. They are led by an Iraqi cleric who goes by the name Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

• What They Do: ISIS has been fighting against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as well as other militant Islamic groups in Syria for control of parts of Syria while also fighting the Iraqi government in its quest to form the unified ISIS state. Its brutal tactics have been disavowed as too extreme by al Qaeda’s leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.

• How Powerful They Are: ISIS forces took Mosul, the third biggest city in Iraq and the biggest one along the Iraq-Syria border. When they took the city, the ISIS seized more than $400 million from city banks, making it richer than many small nations. According to the Associated Press ISIS has also taken effective control of Tikrit, where Saddam Hussein was born.

• How They’re Able to Fight: Since it controls cities on either side of the Syria-Iraq border, ISIS forces were able to quickly move weapons seized from Mosul into Syria. The weapons, including Humvees, rifles, missiles and ammunition, will help arm ISIS in its fights on both sides of the border.

• The State They Want to Create: The territory in the western part of Iraq that ISIS wants is made up of mostly Sunni Muslims, as is the part of Syria that ISIS wants. Many Sunni Muslims in Iraq have joined ISIS in fighting against the Iraqi Army, which is under the control of a Shiite minority that mainly lives on the other side of the country.

There’s A TON more information, but I gave you the abridged version so you wouldn’t get bored.

If you’ve ever served in the United States military and have ever been deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, you know how serious Muslims are about their religion. I AM NOT CALLING ALL MUSLIMS TERRORISTS! When I speak of Muslims in this post I am speaking about the Radical Islamists. Now add a dose of ridiculous ideals to what they already believe and that only intensifies their cause.

I would like to go into more detail, but I will do that at another time. I just wanted us REGULAR folks to know the basics of exactly what our government is attempting to disassemble.

We The PEOPLE

I’m not sure how in tuned into you are with your public broadcasting station, but I like to watch mine for at least 2 to 3 hours a day, daily. Doing that I occasionally see newscast from different new agencies from all across the Globe. I always learn something new, I learn a lot. Some of it I like, some it I’m in the middle of the road and some of it I hate and is completely ridiculous.

The reason I bring up that last comment is because I saw a show and that show in particular is Frontline and they were doing a piece on Iraq. It commented on one of their shows they have coming up and they stated, “How America Lost Iraq.” That really boils my blood. The reason it does is because of the lives that were lost, the soldiers, marines, airmen, and sailors that were wounded and their lives were changed forever and will never be the same. Are you brave enough to tell the parents of the fallen how America Lost Iraq? Are you going to say the same thing about Afghanistan when we exit? I’ve lost a LOT of friends in the mountains of Afghanistan. I am one of those wounded and my life will never be the same. Are you brave enough to tell me to my face how we lost Afghanistan? Fuck it, I dare you to say how we lost Iraq or Afghanistan! I’ve lost friends in both countries.

We take our liberties such as freedom of speech for granted. I can’t believe how America treated our veterans when they returned home from a hard fought fight in Vietnam, with some thinking they would never see the United States again, but because of their tact and humility they didn’t do a thing. The conditions they fought in were 100 times harder than what my comrades and I fought, but Americans, were “so patriotic” had the audacity spit in the face of the soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors as they returned physically, mentally and spiritually spent. They were called baby killers. All these individuals were doing was following orders. If you’re given an order, especially in a time of war and you don’t execute said order, you WILL be punished under the Uniformed Code Of Military Justice and you WILL be convicted supposedly by a jury of your peers (sure, yeah right) and sent to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas to spend who knows how much time. So I applaud every one of them, for not lashing out and breaking the neck of every person that what brave enough to spit and run. Every time I see a Vietnam veteran I say thank you and give them a proper welcome home Brother. Also, according to america, we lost Vietnam. Is it because we pull out of a country, we’ve lost? What constitutes a loss? In Vietnam and Iraq when American and allied lives are sacrificed by an unknown enemy and you are trying to fight a fair fight according the Geneva Convention, but the enemy is fighting an unfair fight and half the time you don’t know who the enemy is. Pulling out is the sensible thing to do right? That what I would do if I were the President of the United States of America.

We as America need to start worrying about our own country. Yes other countries are at war, but we, America was at war at one time. Does The Civil War Ring a bell? Before the Civil War someone took charge and brought an intelligent group of individuals together and organized this country. Why can’t they do the same? Because every time someone tries to take charge there’s an outcry of hatred or violence outbreak, somethings got to give. I’m not saying our country has the perfect blueprint, but the framework is there. If we go back to our own framework we could possibly get something done.

Congress can’t even pass a fucking bill, but yet they blame it on the President. I’m not just talking about the current President, I’m taking, Clinton, Bush, shit, his Dad even. Congress has too much damn power. The power is supposed to be with the PEOPLE and not with the Government.

Mr. Mikey

Today, I have a real treat for you guys. Today’s Blog post will not be about me. A friend of mine had to write a Blog Post for an assignment. I read and thought it was hilarious and I wanted to share it with you. A little background on my Brother. He was the Platoon Sergeant of the Platoon I was out with when our truck was hit by and Improvised Explosive Device (IED). He broke both of his arms and they had to put a grip of screws and plates in his ankle, though he was injured, he wasn’t worried about himself, his only worry was about everybody else. Now that’s a real muthaf******* leader. The Driver broke some vertebre in his back, broke his heel (I’m not sure of all his injuries), I broke my heel, ankle and torn all type of ligaments in my foot that I didn’t even know existed. In addition to my, the Driver and Mikey, 2 other passengers were injured. I hope he doesn’t mind that I mentioning his name. I love this guy as if he was my blood brother. Matter of fact, everyone that was in the vehicle are my brothers and sister for life. Okay, let’s get into his post. I introduce the world to Mr. Mikey Sampsell.

Flag Pic for BlogFor my Blog this week, I visited http://usconstitution.net/ and as per instruction, I would like to offer some feedback as to what I learned as I navigated that site.  First of all, the very first thing I noticed was the meticulous organization of its webpage.  Everything seemed easy to locate and appeared to cover everything you would ever want to know about the structure of the US Government.  The first tab on which I clicked was labeled “Failed Amendments.”  I have always been a somewhat negative person so this selection came as no surprise to me.  I was one sentence in to the Corwin Amendment of 1861 when it happened; I was suddenly and overwhelmingly attacked by pop-up advertisements.

The first one did not seem out of the ordinary.  Apparently, I was randomly selected to take part in a survey for the website.  Of note, at the completion of the survey I would receive a valuable gift.  You can imagine my excitement at the prospect of a valuable gift considering my birthday isn’t until December (the 19th to be exact in case anyone wants to write that down).  It was, as the survey stated, completely my decision whether or not to participate.  However, there was no way to navigate away from it.  So, with that in mind, and the valuable gift, of course, I decided to answer a few questions.  This first (and only as it turned out) question simply asked me where it was I was viewing the website.  I made quick work of this question by answering “home” without a moment’s hesitation.  I was anxiously awaiting the next query when I was, having been randomly selected to take three more surveys, redirected.  These surveys informed me that while I would not only be providing a valuable service to the public, I could also be compensated monetarily for my participation.  I could make anywhere from $5 to $75 per completed survey!  The world can say what it wants but America remains the land of opportunity.

Pic for the BlogI spent the better part of the next two minutes trying to decide whether I should participate.  At the same time, I also had to decide if I really needed to install this “Open Download Manager” so I could download videos faster.  It was highly recommended that I do so.  As if my plate weren’t already full, my world was suddenly turned upside down by what came next.

What follows next I am only pointing out due to its relevancy.  I was wounded twice in combat; the first time was in Iraq on July 7, 2004 and the second time in Afghanistan on April 25, 2010.  In the latter case, I would undergo four surgeries to repair both my arms and reattach my foot.  As you might imagine, this required screws, bolts, (probably some duct tape), and titanium plates.  Since undergoing these surgeries, I often get rashes at the wound sites.  They are red, itchy, and generally just unpleasant.  The only thing I can do for this is apply generous amounts of anti-itch cream and ignore it.  However, according to what I was now seeing, this was just the tip of the iceberg.  My rashes had nothing to do with the hardware in my appendages and everything to do with a terrifying new disease called “The American Parasite.”  You can’t make this up.  This ailment is characterized by itchy rashes, belly fat, inability to sleep, and occasional bouts of depression.  It is these exact characteristics that I use to describe myself on social media sites.  It is clear to me that I have this disease and that I am going to die.  There is no cure as legislation to address and develop a means to combat it are hopelessly stuck in the legislatures of both New York and, you guessed it…Mexico.  All I can do is hope and cease to eat all the foods I crave because according to this new information made available to me, it’s not me craving it, it’s the American Parasite.

Garcinia Cambogia offered a slight glimmer of hope as it informed me that I had again been randomly selected to participate in their special offer.  For those of you not in the know, Garcinia Cambogia is the latest craze in fat-burning.  According to the information I have been provided, GC burns fat quicker and more efficiently than any other product of its kind.  I am not sure whether I believe this claim as Garcinia Cambogia’s literal translation is “Fat Sucker” which you can see works on two levels.  But at only $59.99 for a month’s supply, I think it might be worth the risk.  Sure, I am obviously going to be killed by the American Parasite; but at least I can die without all this belly fat.Pic for the Blog 1

In closing, http://usconstitution.net/ looks like it was created as a very useful site for students, teachers, and citizens in general.  However, the endless pop-up advertisements prevent the user from actually navigating the site.  I would not recommend this site to anyone until such a time the administrators decide to repair it so that it operates as it was originally intended.  Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to click and see if I in fact do qualify for financial aid at Long Island Beauty School.

When will we as Americans start to recognize each other as Americans instead of a Social Class, Race, Ethnicity or any other category you can dream up? From what I’ve seen, the only time the United States becomes “United,” it takes a major event such as a terrorist attack, to happen on our front porch. It’s very frustrating to hear people from all walks of life complain about how this race/ethnicity is this way or a certain religion is bad because of this or that. Instead, how about we say, we as Americans have all types of issues, what can be done to fix them? Whether you believe it or not, or are willing to accept it, we are all Americans. Yes, I know there are those that are American through a process of paperwork and not by birthright, but why are we all treated differently?

A lot of individuals are willing to sacrifice their lives just to escape one way of living so they can achieve the “American Dream,” meaning, they want what seems to be a better life and also have the right to be able to make their own decisions and so forth. I also realize that there are a large number of illegal immigrants in America (Different Topic). I am not going to sit here and tell you that at some point in my life that I have never been prejudice against another race or religion of certain people because of an irreversible act of Terrorism. I will admit and I am not ashamed to say that after the individuals that were responsible for the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, and they were identified that I contained a strong hate for people of the Middle-Eastern Decent/Muslim faith. That is a very ignorant way of thinking, I know, but I wasn’t or didn’t want to be educated at the time, because I thought it was the right thing to do. It took me having to be deployed to Iraq/Afghanistan and forced to interact with some common individuals in those countries to realize that you can’t blame an entire religion or a group of people because they have a couple of “misguided” children. I won’t take all the blame for this hatred either, some of that hate can be attributed to the way the media portrayed these people at that time. It took me to see with my own eyes there are people in these countries that don’t have a radical way of thinking and they don’t wake up everyday with the thought of killing Americans or Foreign Troops on their mind.

America has come a long way since the days of slavery and segregation, but there is still a large number of ethnic groups (not just Black) who think that they are owed something by White Americans. I didn’t realize these ethnic groups are being forced to America in large numbers, packed to the brim of a ship for months on end with barely enough food and water; I didn’t realize these ethnic groups are still being beat up, attacked by dogs, deterred by the National Guard because they want to attend a certain University for higher learning. I understand what individuals in that era had to endure and I am not saying forget about it, how about we honor those individuals by coming together, so as they look down on us, they will be able to say, “I now understand why I had to endure pain and suffering; so the future America doesn’t have to.” It’s no longer a Race, Ethnic or Social Class thing, it’s an America thing. We all struggle with the lack of proper education, lack of motivation to get a job, lack of respect for our elders, lack of regard for law enforcement/authority in general, etc. I could go on, but what is that going to do other than make you wish that I would shut up? Instead of segregating a certain race or ethnic group, how about we work together as 1 group, Americans, and tackle this problem together. If we continue to separate ourselves, this process will happen continuously.

That also rings true when we set out to the polls to elect our officials of Government, whether it be City, County, State or Federal Levels. If we as Americans are not taking advantage of our right to vote and are voting for the right reasons then it’s our fault that the individual we elect does not meet the expectations set forth. I honestly think, no matter which party is in control, someone, somewhere is still going to complain. Its very hard to make everyone happy. I’m sure not many Black Americans will admit to this, but I didn’t vote for President Barak Obama solely because he was black, I voted for him in the 2008 Presidential Election, because I thought he was going to finally get this country back on track. I had hope and believed in what he said. It’s now 2014 and it feels like we are “marching in place,” because the same individuals we elected (The House, Senate and Congress) seem to want to pacify the rest of the world instead of making sure the people in its country are taken care of, but that’s a whole different issue. Don’t get me wrong, I do understand we have to uphold our foreign relations, because that’s just how it works, but I don’t agree with making another country happy with the sacrifice of innocent men and women. (That’s an entirely different issue; don’t get me going!)

In order for America to fix itself, we as Americans need to stop thinking of “self “and start thinking of “us.” There is a small percentage of individuals that have my way of thinking and I am sure any changes of this magnitude will not be seen in my lifetime, hopefully for my children. Maybe they will get it right. There are going to be those that read this and will be able to take bits and pieces from this; it’s a start. Now only if we could get our elected officials on the same page. Its time for America to take back America and stop letting an individual think for us. We all know what we want, we just need to stop depending on someone else to try to figure out what it is.
